I am a 41 year old husband and father of 2. I am a former army officer, serving in both Iraq and Afghanistan. I am a keen triathlete and have completed several Ironman and 70.3 races.
My why:
I fell in to Ironman triathlon through a bet with military colleagues in 2014 to find challenges that really pushed our bodies to the limits. Since then I have continued my love affair with the sport for a number of reasons.
I really love the feeling of really pushing my body to its limits, that endorphin rush afterwards is amazing.
I really enjoy that time alone, away from life, with the ability to reflect. With a busy work, home and study life, it is vital I have that time to manage stress levels and just be me!
The comradery within the sport is second to none. I love race mornings when everyone is together, all helping each other out, talking and sharing stories. Exactly how sport should be.
It gives me goals and a purpose in life; I achieve so much more in other aspects of my life when I am working towards my sporting goals.
I love the sport, the people and that feeling of accomplishment.
In August 2022 I was diagnosed with ADHD after a number of health challenges. I am now using exercise to help me manage my symptoms and improve my mental well being. The plan is to return to 70.3 racing in 2023 in Ironman 70.3 Cork.
