I took up cycling as an adult and really enjoyed it, which piqued my interest in triathlon. I dove all-in choosing a half IRONMAN as my first event with a "one and done" intention. As manly triathletes can relate to, that wasn't what played out -- I was hooked after that first race.
As I focused on my personal growth as an athlete, I eventually hired a coach. I became increasingly fascinated by the inner workings of coaching and how all the pieces fit together; I didn't want to just execute the workouts, I wanted to understand the how and why of it all. This curiosity led me to delve into the "behind the scenes" aspects of coaching, constantly seeking to enhance my knowledge and understanding of the sport.
As a coach, my ultimate goal is to help my athletes unlock their full potential while maintaining a healthy balance between training and other important aspects of their lives, such as family and work commitments. I believe that true success lies in finding both harmony and fulfillment in all areas. I strive to guide my athletes towards achieving that balance in the unique frameworks of their lives.
In addition to my coaching endeavors, I actively participate in and contribute to our local triathlon community. For the past three years, I have proudly served as the chairperson of the Galway Triathlon Club. In this role, I have had the privilege of fostering a supportive and vibrant local triathlon community, where athletes of all levels can thrive and pursue their passions. On a personal level, I have completed three IRONMAN races and have participated in numerous 70.3 events. The World Triathlon Long Distance World Championships have also been a highlight of my athletic career, showcasing my dedication and commitment to the sport.
