Hi! I am an athlete, endurance coach, and biology professor. I picked up the sport of triathlon (and from there running, ultras, hiking, crit racing, etc) back in 2010 when I was in grad school and fairly unhappy with how life was going. A friend convinced me to do a sprint triathlon and over that summer, I was hooked. These endurance athletes cared about what they ate, getting in exercise, having a healthy work-life balance, were much more inclusive and open to outsiders than lab science grad students, and I didn't have to explain to them why I can't stay out all night at a bar. I fell in love!!

Speeding through the next decade, I left grad school, became a personal trainer, started my own coaching company, started teaching biology, took over my local triathlon club, went from sprints to Ironmans back to 70.3 (Worlds x3 - 2011, 2017, 2019), and now own a bike that is worth more than my car! Moving back into athletics has been the one part of my life I would die before I take back.

I have been on the podium and enjoy it, but I get so much more long-term enjoyment out of helping others find what they love about endurance sports and exploring it. As the president of my local tri club and a multisport coach, I get to hold newbie's hands while they stumble into the sport and find their way. It is beyond incredible seeing them take on the role of a leader and helping others find their way.

As a day job, I teach college students about anatomy & physiology, nutrition, and science in general, and then get to go out and put it to the test. I don't think there's a better combination!
