I am the Chair of the Board of the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia, a nonprofit whose goal is to make bicycling a safe and fun way to get around in our region. I’m also a partner at the law firm of Blank Rome LLP. Triathlon and cycling are my passions.
After I ran my first marathon, I wanted to try something new. I've always been intrigued by the NBC coverage of the Ironman World Championship, and the lore of this ultimate challenge drew me in. Looking at the sprint distance, I thought to myself that this is doable, if I could just survive the swim. I could run, but I didn't own a bike (and never owned a road bike), and never swam laps before. My first test was to try swimming laps for the first time. To my surprise, I actually enjoyed the challenge of flailing around the pool. At that point I decided to train for my first triathlon, the (now defunct) Upper Main Line YMCA Triathlon, where the swim took place in a 50 meter outdoor pool. Although I felt like I almost drowned during the swim, I survived and finished the race. I was hooked after that.
